Before you fall for the view

The prettiest venue can still be the wrong one. Ask what the hire fee actually includes, what is mandatory (in-house catering, a preferred-supplier list, security, cleaning) and what happens to your date if you do not confirm quickly. A venue that answers these plainly is telling you how it will behave for the next twelve months.

Money

Ask for the total, not the headline. The questions that surface hidden cost: Is there a minimum spend, and does it change by day or season? Is catering per head, and what is the realistic per-head once drinks and staff are in? What is the deposit, when are the balance payments due, and is any of it refundable? Are ceremony, styling, cake-cutting or a wet-weather setup charged separately? Get the answers in writing before you sign.

Capacity and flow

Numbers on a website are the maximum, not the comfortable. Ask how many the room seats with a dancefloor and a bridal table in place, where guests go between ceremony and reception, and whether the ceremony, canapes and dinner happen in one space or move. If it rains, where does the ceremony go, and does that room still fit everyone?

Suppliers and logistics

Ask whether you must use in-house catering or a preferred list, and what it costs to bring your own. Confirm what time suppliers can access the venue to set up, when everything has to be packed down, and whether anything can stay overnight. Check the noise curfew and how late music can run, since an early hard stop reshapes the whole night.

The day itself

Ask who runs your wedding on the day: a dedicated coordinator, or whoever is rostered on. Find out how many events they host at once, whether there is a wedding before or after yours, and how much turnaround time that leaves. Ask about parking and transport for guests, accessibility, and where the couple can get ready or store gifts and belongings.
